As part of my prolonged birthday party celebrations, I had my third massage in five days. Greedy, me? Of course!Today I went to see Nico, a bodyworker based in Primrose Hill, who uses deep tissue and myofascial release techniques. I went on a training course with myofascial release supremo Professor Robert Schleip and I think it's one of the best techniques ever devised for muscle tension and for scoliosis sufferers like me.The first thing I noticed about Nico's approach is his full and total concentration. Because of this, every pressure point, stretch and release is executed with maximum precision and I like that.Secondly, I have noticed that Nico has what I would call a "respectful touch": he listens to the body's feedback, he will press some points until they become painful but then they release and the muscles elongate. And when not even the respectful touch will do to ease the pain, Nico uses humour to diffuse any discomfort! Finally, I thought that the location and ambience were lovely: Primrose Hill is a fantastic area and the clinic is extremely quiet (no music was played during the treatment which I was very happy about) and you could hear birds sing outside the window. Heaven in North London? I definitely think so. I will be back.
