North Tyneside General Hospital was founded in 1984 and is part of Northumbria NHS Trust. The accident and emergency department is open 24 hours a day. The clinic also covers general medicine, surgery, orthopaedic surgery, maternity, psychiatry and many more services. Towards the Tyneside, one can find the Royal Quays, the former docks of the area. It contains pre-existing North Shields International Ferry Terminal. In 1990 the area was re-developed. Now this area offers residential housing, a shopping centre, a water park known as Wet'N'Wild and other retail outlets. Wet'N'Wild is a great place to go on a hot summers day to cool down and have fun. There are waterslides and pools for all ages and swimming abilities. Stephenson Railway Museum is located in NE29. It was opened in 1986 to hold the railway collections of the Tyne & Wear Museums. The museum illustrates the vital part the railways played in the region's history and also how railways continue to be relevant to today's transport needs. There are also many parks in NE29. A few include Smith's Park, West End Park and Linear Park. Linear Park consists of two large circular fields separated by a little pond. Smiths Park has two large and two small football fields, along with 3 tennis courts.
