There was controversy when Lily first appeared nude in French Playboy, and many suggested she should be dropped from her contract with M&S, but they stuck by her. She defended the photographs as art, saying "Nudity has always existed in art ... it doesn't necessarily 'debase' anymore than it celebrates ... the human body"
