About Nuffield Health Fitness & Wellbeing Nuneaton
Cosmetically the place looks very impressive. The staff appear friendly and the facilities look up to date.2 days later after signing the membership form, before you can start using their facilities, you have to go through a body checkup, they call it the 'Health MOT', unfortunately for me we discovered I was hypertensive and could not use any of the equipment without the all clear from the GP. OK...fair enough, in the meantime as I cannot use any of the gym equipment, what about going for a swim. The staff member replied without a doctors note, they cannot allow me to use ANYTHING.I asked for the membership to be cancelled so that I can concentrate in lowering my hypertension. The staff member said they can only suspend my membership for 6 months and he would put a note down to cancel the membership after the 6 months suspension but I would have to pay for the first months membership... WHAT ??? I haven't even touched any of the equipment yet, I had no choice but to pay up.6 months later I get a letter saying my membership will restart again, I phone up and say to them that I requested a a cancellation of membership after the 6 month suspension. The person who I was conversing with said there was no note to cancel the membership and I would have to pay up for the month of the membership restart. I refused to pay considering I haven't been near the gym and still wasn't allowed to use their facilities, I asked them to get the manager. They replied the manager will call back... guess what ??? no phone call back. The next month I get a letter from a credit recovery company they use to chase their members for money, this time the cost was for 2 months membership. I phone them up again and asked what the hell is going on considering I asked for the membership to be cancelled last month. The person as nice as she may sound said that the membership commenced and I had not paid up, I told her my situation and wasn't willing to pay for 2 months membership. She then checked my memebership form and said that I had signed up 12 months worth commitment and will need 1 month notice to cancel the membership. I told her I requested it last month, she then told me I need to write to them about the cancellation, I told her I wasn't given any information about it last month about needing a written letter. Not only was that insult to injury but she then proceeded to tell me that the suspension only delayed my membership for 6 months and that I have to still commit to the full 12 months before I can cancel the membership. Now I'm stuck with what to do as the info and options I needed at the time wasn't given to me by the staff at the start of membership. My high blood pressure is still high enough to stop me using the gym and yet they won't cancel the membership. You do the maths and tell me that they are not 'legally' robbing me.
