About Thai Massage Union Square
I am a huge fan of Thai Massage. In fact, if I had my way, it would be the only massage I would ever get. I have my favorite place in San Francisco, but new to New York, I had no idea where to go. I came across Reinhold's listing for Thai Massage and decided to give it a try, especially as two of his locations are very close to my home and work.I went to the Union Square location, which is a wellness collective where a number of wellness treatments are offered by various practitioners. The massage took place in a small but simple and clean room, with mat on the floor. After I reviewed my medical and massage history with Reinhold (who is also a medical masseuse, which is a bonus), we started the massage, which I realized was a bit different than the Thai massage I am used to in San Francisco. Reinhold explained to me that there are two Thai schools - the Bangkok style and the Northern style. I was used to the Bangkok style, which puts more emphasis on massage and pressing hard on various points throughout the body. Meanwhile, the Northern method, which is Reinhold's specialty, focuses more on stretching, movement and alignment.Though I love deep, deep massages, I really enjoyed this experience as well, as I could tell that my body desperately needed to be pulled and twisted in various directions. It reminded me of the physical therapy I used to have twice a week and my body was thankful. It is a very active massage, but probably one of the best kinds you can get. Reinhold is incredibly knowledgeable, intuitive, strong but gentle. I look forward to many more Thai massages with Reinhold and highly recommend to all.
